Our board members, directors and advisory committee are the front lines of our organization. These volunteers often do double and triple duty, and you can find them not only serving in this administrative capacity, but also fostering, transporting, and working fundraising events throughout the year.

Elizabeth Howe, Rescue Director
A Tennessee resident since 1999, Elizabeth has more than 30 years of experience with horses. Her first horse, earned with hours of cleaning stalls, mowing grass and babysitting, was a rescued Morgan gelding, 200 pounds underweight with the bad habit of racing back to the barn. It’s no wonder she has a soft spot for old geldings. In the years since, she has learned several disciplines, earned a certification in Equine Sports Massage Therapy, and has continuing education credits in nutrition, holistic wellness and equine management.

Allison Huckins, Events Director
Allison has been a Safe Harbor volunteer for seven years. At various points, she has been volunteer coordinator, camp director, photographer, show coordinator, foster, and repeat adopter. She is also our go-to horse show announcer. In addition to her 4-legged family, Allison is mom to two young humans and owns a custom bakery/cupcake shop, A Sprinkle In Time.

She also leads a local ministry helping women and teenagers struggling with life hurts and various forms of abuse and addictions. Christy has a deep passion for helping animals and caring for people. When she retires, she dreams of starting an Equine Therapy facility. Christy serves as our Board Secretary and Volunteer Coordinator. She also serves as our representative with the U.S. Trotting Association.

Brittney Broadrick, Advisory Committee
Brittney is a lifelong horse person. She started in USPC lesson program at 7, and transitioned to hunter/jumper in her teens. She also spent time riding reiners and working under a trainer starting young horses. She has been a volunteer for years, assisting fosters with assessments on their horses, helping at events, and helping facilitate adoptions to some students. Her role as the foster-adoption liaison allows her to do very much the same, helping match foster horses with potential new homes.
-
Debbie May, Foster Coordinator
A teacher by trade, Debbie has been our foster coordinator for several years. She’s also been through the adoption process, having adopted her senior mare May through Safe Harbor. Debbie also assists with behind-the-scenes administration and is most likely the person returning a voicemail.
-
Kellie Taylor, Advisory Committee
Kellie serves on the advisory committee as a foster farm representative and as part of the creative team. Kellie began volunteering with Safe Harbor in 2019 and has fostered since 2020. Kellie cofacilitates equine therapy as an EAGALA certified equine specialist. In addition, she is a professional artist, often contributing graphic designs for Safe Harbor.
