Success Stories – Adopted 2019
Tashi is an 18 yr old Appendix mare cleared for light riding. Tashi originally came to Safe Harbor after being abandoned at a boarding facility. She was a trained hunter and lesson horse in her younger years. She was adopted 2 years ago by a beginner owner, and returned to Safe Harbor in May due to personal changes and a cross-country move. Tashi has been ridden in lessons and used in kids’ camp in her previous time in rescue. She is currently being legged back up by her foster home under the direction of a trainer.
Tashi has some consistent stocking up in her hind legs and arthritis. She’d enjoy a home with regular stretching and massage. Our vet says she is sound for as much riding as she is comfortable with – we think likely walk/trot but could be more with proper conditioning and maintenance. She does not show soreness or lameness on acupressure checks and is not currently on any special supplements. She lives outside 24/7 but appreciates a stall in bad weather. Tashi was just updated on vaccines and Coggins 5/16.
Disclaimer here: Tashi is prone to atrocious ground manners. She will get away with what she’s allowed to get away with, in typical lesson horse fashion. With an experienced horse person, she will change her ‘tude almost immediately and have zero issues. We would love to find an experienced horse “mom” with a kid who wants to fart around the farm for Tashi to spend her golden years — or an experienced horse mom who enjoys short, quiet rides around the house herself
