Marley is currently out on lease!
Please note: Marley is listed as a courtesy to his owner/adopter. Transfer contract is required as he is covered by our lifetime safety net.
For those who have followed Safe Harbor any length of time, you have likely met Marley. Marley has been a staple of our events, giving buggy rides and teaching our driving clinics. He is a 2003 off the track Standardbred gelding (Registered USTA “Rohan”). He was adopted by a volunteer a few years ago and is sadly being rehomed due to his adopter’s health, which has kept her from being able to ride or work with him consistently.
Marley rides and drives. He has more experience driving, and has been hitched and driven by beginners under supervision and will walk unless asked for more. He would greatly prefer a driving home, though he is sound to ride. Marley been led through the White House and Gallatin Christmas parades (in costume, much to his embarrassment!) Under saddle, he is gaited and just needs a fitness program to even out his walk-gait transition. Walk/gait/back, knows how to move his shoulders and hips and content to walk until you want more. Marley DOES react to a rough or inexperienced hand – this quiet, cool dude appreciates the same from his person. He’s been ridden indoors and out and has been popped over cross rails for fun. This video was his first ride in 2 years and no, we didn’t lunge him first.
He pastures fine with goats, ponies, or another quiet and easygoing gelding. Does all the things a well-trained horse should do on the ground, no vices.
Marley is UTD on vaccinations, Coggins, deworming and farrier. He will need shoes if worked extensively as he is somewhat flat-footed. He’s a big guy, around 16 hands and likely size 2 shoe.
Priced in the low 4-figures with part being donated back to Safe Harbor – extremely negotiable to the perfect situation.
Approved adopter/ownership transfer contract required; questions will happily be answered. PPE welcome at adopter’s expense.
Lease-purchase terms available.
Per our contract, no commercial carriage work allowed.
