Success Story – Adopted August, 2019
Kira is a lovely buckskin mare, vet aged at about 25 years old and standing approx. 15.1. She is possibly a Morgan-cross. Now that she is up to a healthy weight, is an easy keeper for her age. Kira is easy to handle, though she does need some reminders about personal space. She leads, loads, ties, and tacks up quietly. She’s still getting used to fly spray and the hose 🙂
She would make a great companion for anyone. If she is adopted as a riding horse, Kira’s best match would be an experienced horseman or horsewoman who can continue to bring her back to her full potential. Short, easy rides are going to be best for her in the short-term, but as she is legged up, she has the potential to do more. She has some arthritis typical of her age and a slight sway-back that will improve with fitness, but she has no obvious soundness issues.
Kira came to Safe Harbor in February via Metro Nashville Animal Control. In her previous life, she belonged to an elderly man whose daughter neglected to feed or provide adequate care for his horse.
