Beautiful Astoria came to us through Macon County Animal Control. She was found starving, a BCS 1, with two deceased horses sharing her dirt lot. For a time, we were unsure if she would survive.
Astoria is in her mid-20s and is looking for a companion home. She was likely broke to ride earlier in her life, as she is easy to handle and enjoys interaction with people. She may be OK, with your veterinarian’s approval, to lead children around on her back, but her days of more strenuous activities are over. Astoria does have arthritis, a mild heart murmur, and heaves. (Treatment of heaves, similar to human asthma, is straightforward and involves minimizing dust in the horse’s environment, including 24/7 turnout, feeding square bale or hay cubes versus rolls, antihistamines and steroids when needed).
This lovely lady would love a green pasture to live out her golden years. She currently shares a field with Scarlet, who is also adoptable. They can be adopted as a pair for a $150 fee, or Astoria is available by herself for a donation of the adopter’s choosing. Fill out an Adoption Application and add some class and color to your farm!
Note as of December, 2019: Astoria needs secure fencing, IE, 3-or-4 board wood, woven wire, hot wire plus wood or woven wire, or multi-strand hot wire that is HOT. She knows how to let herself out of 2-strands of electric tape at her foster farm.
