If you are interested in a foster that you have seen on our website or social media, please write their name in this box, along with a description of what you feel will best describe your ideal adoptive fit. *
Please select that option that best describes your experience level with a horse: * I am brand new to horses, and do not plan on taking lessons or getting any training for the horse. I am only interested in horses that are broke to ride and ready for a beginner. I am brand new to horses, but I am willing to learn and grow with a horse that has already been started and may need more work. I either already have a trainer to work with, or would like a rescue recommendation for a trainer. I have never owned a horse before, but I've ridden a leased horse, lesson horse, or gone to camp for many years of my life and cared for horses and ridden horses there. I have friends who own horses and I am around them a lot. I have been riding for under five years and already have a good veterinarian, farrier, and equine support group to help me work through any issues I may have with my horse. If anything is beyond my skill level, I would be comfortable talking to a trainer I know and hiring a trainer for myself or the horse if needed. I've been riding for over five years, and consider myself to be intermediate. I know the style of riding I like, and I know what I would like my horse experience level to be. I understand herd dyamics, how to ride through a spook, and how to do some basic training/refresher work. I am a lifelong horse owner, or I have had years of quality training, and consider myself to be advanced. I may have started a colt before, or at least worked with a difficult or challenging horse in the past. I don't expect everything to be a walk in the park, and can handle working through a few issues myself. I can train horses, and could take on a project horse from scratch if I wanted to.
Height and weight of primary rider *
If your horse were injured and unable to continue in your chosen discipline, what would you do? (i.e. humanely euthanize the horse, return the horse to rescue, seek a new home for the horse, allow him/her to retire at my farm, etc...) *
I'll give my horse feed: * Once per day Twice per day If he or she seems to be losing weight I only plan on providing hay.
I plan to feed my horse * grass and hay only grass, hay and all stock/sweet feed grass, hay and horse feed that is developed to match my horse's age/metabolism, and activity level
He or she will eat In stall In pasture On a lead line Tied outside of pasture In a round pen or other separate enclosure

My relationship with my support team is best described as: * I'm a new owner. I just found these people and plan to use them. I'm a current owner of the species I wish to adopt, and my support team knows me well. I'm a current owner of a different species, and my support team knows me well. I own animals, but I only use my vet and/or farrier when I have to, so they don't know me well at all. I own animals, but have never used the vet and farrier on this application. It's been a year or two since I've owned animals, so I'm hoping they remember who I am.
I believe my animals should see the vet * Regularly so we have a relationship, and they know what is normal or abnormal for my pet. Regularly, and beyond building the relationship, I believe in routine chiropractic or other treatments to enhance quality of life. Annually for shots and a health exam or coggins Only when something seems wrong to me. I know my pet best, and can tell my vet what is normal or abnormal. Only in case of emergency.
I believe my animals should see the farrier * Every 4-6 weeks Every 6-8 weeks Every 8-10 weeks Only if they aren't sound/have hoof problems/abcesses.
If you currently own animals, are they all current on vaccinations? * Yes No I have consciously decided not to vaccinate for health reasons I do not currently own animals
Are all of your male pets neutered/castrated or female pets spayed if it is species appropriate? * Yes No I don't currently own animals
Please explain *
Have you ever bred any of your animals? * Yes No I've never owned animals before.
Was the breeding? * On purpose Accidental
What happened to the babies? * I still have them. I sold them. I gave them away. I don't know.
If you adopt a female horse, pony or other livestock animal from us, do you want her to have babies? * Yes No I haven't considered it, but maybe. Only if I adopt a registered animal.
Are you prepared to care for your adopted animal for the remainder of its life? Please note that some animals such as horses and ponies can live to be over 40 years old. * Yes No
Do you understand that an adoption from Safe Harbor is a "Lifelong" adoption? This means that you must notify the rescue if you are ever unable to care for an animal you adopt, and a home transfer contract must be signed if your adopted animal is ever rehomed. Safe Harbor acts as a safety net for ALL animals cared for and adopted out by the rescue for life. If you are approved to adopt, you will be required to sign an adoption contract complying with this notice provision. * Yes No I think I agree, but I am applying with the intent to train and rehome, and I need this explained to me fully.
How did you learn about Safe Harbor?
